and so it begins...

...the invasion has begun in the P household this week...farewell grown-up, clean and clutter free house...I hope we meet again someday :p

weekend updates...

We had a nice weekend at home (first time we've both been home with no plans in almost 2 months!). We got all the trim and doors painted upstairs...they look fantastic. We had been holding out, in hopes of replacing all of them with new doors/trim that match the rest of the house before the baby arrives...but decided that money is better spent towards the baby and other house projects that are more important right now. So after the purchase of a $5 mask for me (we already had the paint from the bathroom remodel), it looks SO much better. They are now bright white (compared to the old off white, scuffed marked doors they were before). We still have the living room window trim to do since we ran out of paint...but that will be for another weekend. We did replace the door knobs too, makes it look 100 times better. Unfortunately Joe did smash his thumb while hammering in the door knobs, poor guy.  I know it's going to hurt for a while yet :(

I also booked our birthing class at the hospital I hope to deliver at (my doctor should have privileges there after June 30th), which is making this a lot more real. My doctor also told me I need to contact my insurance to find out if circumcision is covered...apparently most insurances are NOT covering this procedure (brand new information to me!) since it has been deemed not medically necessary by most (if not all) of the big medical associations. She told me hospitals typically charge $1,000 for the procedure or we could go into my clinic after we're discharged and have it done for around $400 there (which I'm not too crazy about waiting that long but for $600, it makes the decision difficult). Thankfully I'm covered 100% either way and we don't have to make that call. YAY for having a baby during one of the last few "cadillac" policy years...I'm afraid when #2 rolls around, I won't be as lucky.

Over the weekend, we also hit up a few garage sales and estate sales around our house, since Joe and I typically do this every summer but we've been too busy to go together yet. We did find a few small baby items we picked up and Joe found some deals on some tools and garage supplies he was in need of. Overall, we got some great stuff and didn't spend that much money.

On Sunday, we headed to Dick and Wanda's to celebrate Jim's 40th birthday. Joe caught this fish off the dock, 3 pounds and 19 inches long...the biggest so far this year for him!

And now just another work week, soooo looking forward to the extended holiday weekend. Safe travels to everyone!!

24w0d

How far along? 24w0d or 60%...woah....this is going way too fast!
Total weight gain/loss: +11 pounds
Size: Ear of Corn or Papaya! He is now a foot long and over 1 pound (gained about 4 ounces last week).
Baby Development: His brain is growing quickly now and his taste buds continue to develop (I'm trying vary hard to eat veggies right now, ugh I hate them :). His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and while his skin is still transparent, that will be changing very soon!
Movement: Yes, I feel him move all the time...nothing external yet so Joe is still *patiently* waiting to feel a kick! My doctor said we should feel this sometime very soon, so just be patient JMP :)
Food cravings: McDonald's breakfast is back with a vengeance, it's is all I can think about lately.
Food aversions: None.
What I miss: Jimmy John's, alcohol, my jeans (haven't bought maternity ones since I doubt I'll wear them much this summer)
How I'm feeling: Bloated...the rings have officially come off until further notice :( It's very tight in the morning and does loosen up over the day...I just don't want to risk the chance of the finger swells to not go away one day and have to get my beautiful ring cut off...not worth it. So I now look like an unwed mother LOL ;)  I may buy a cheapie ring but honestly I don't care what people think...let them judge, those that matter know the truth. It's sad that it's 2011 and people still judge (com'n people, single women can be moms too!!) but what can ya do?
Milestones/Best moment this week: Cleaning out the nursery! All that is left to move is the bed, desk and rug....everything else is ALL baby! We are painting the trim/doors this weekend and plan to paint the nursery in mid-July (the next weekend we are home). We should have our crib by then, so we'll clear out the last of the furniture, paint and finally get it looking like a nursery :)
We've also reached the week of viability...if for some reason pumpkin seed were to be born now (I pray every day he's not yet), he has a much better chance of survival...his chances increase greatly each week from here on out...but we're close to the 50% mark now which is good news, another big milestone :)

23w0d

How far along? 23w0d or 57.5%
Total weight gain/loss: +10 pounds
Size: Papaya or large Mango! He is more than 11 inches long now and over 1 pound.
Baby Development: He can feel me dance, that means I need to dance more :)  His sense of movement is well developed now and soon we should be able to see him squirm under my skin. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for when he starts breathing outside the womb. Loud noises like Shiloh barking and the vacuum cleaner are becoming familiar and probably won't faze him after he arrives.
Movement: Yes, I feel him move all the time...nothing external yet so Joe is still *patiently* waiting to feel a kick!
Food cravings: McDonald's breakfast is back with a vengeance, it's is all I can think about lately.
Food aversions: None.
What I miss: Jimmy John's, alcohol, my jeans (haven't bought maternity ones since I doubt I'll wear them much this summer)
How I'm feeling: Bloated...I put on a pair of brown heels this morning that I haven't worn in a few weeks...holy crap, my feet have grown...they were way too tight, had to switch to the flip flops I had in my car. I know it's not professional but I'm going to be wearing flip flops from now on so I don't ruin my good shoes! I'm also not too far from retiring my wedding ring to it's new temporary home in the jewelry box, I hope I'll see you again by Thanksgiving!!
Milestones/Best moment this week: My sister in law gave us two paper Target grocery bags FULL of boys clothes this week. We had run into one of her co-workers at a "Just Between Friends Sale" back in April...she said if we were having a boy to let her know, she has 2 boys (the youngest born last November so the seasons are perfect for us!) and is done...and was just itching to purge some clothes. She brought them to Melinda this week, yay! So between my garage sale finds and the newest stash below, we have a great start of clothing.

And now for the baby bump:
After work today, I'm heading to Stanley for the weekend with my brother for Father's Day...and I'm SO looking forward to the deep fried cheese curds (it's the rodeo weekend), YUM!! Joe is staying here and spending the weekend with his Dad and brother, they plan to go golfing and fishing and probably some other boy stuff I have little to no interest in doing ;)

Have a great weekend!

summer pregnancy...

More and more people at work are starting to notice my growing belly or maybe the news is starting to finally spread? I had told immediate finance co-workers around the 12 week mark but didn't make a big to-do about announcing to every person I saw in the hall or in a meeting. I think a lot of people have known for a while already (gotta love the water cooler talk) and for the rest, I figured they would find out eventually (it's hard to hide after a certain point! :)

Now that the news has spread around work, I'm getting the "why in the heck did you want to be pregnant over the summer" question all the time...the bolded word is what's irritating because you don't exactly get to pick when baby sticks. In all reality, if you did your research, we are actually in the minority and were very fortunate it only took 3 months...many couples are not that lucky and it can take years to get their sticky baby. Had been given the choice and total control over the situation, I would be having an August baby...since that was when we were finally ready to become parents and started this journey. But that's not the way God intended for it to be...so you take what you can get! Biologically, the odds are NOT in your favor, you have a very short window of time each month...but I think people forget that small detail, especially with the teenage pregnancy epidemic in our country. I have to remember that some people don't think, I guess...and I know this is only the beginning and there are many more inappropriate comments (from people I don't know very well and who I don't share much personal stuff with) to come, UGH!

Yes, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't dreading late July and August while being 7+ months pregnant...dreading is actually an understatement. But I choose to look at it as it could be worse, at least I won't be 8-9 months along...and the best part is, I will have a precious little baby boy at the end of all the misery and discomfort I will endure this summer. AND our baby gets to wear this ADORABLE hat I just purchased on etsy for his newborn pics :) This hat pretty much makes it worth the "suffering" for an October babe!

c/o Etsy Seller: Swifferkins

Thanks for listening to me rant...it will save me from punching the next person who asks that dreaded question :o/ I'm sure my pregnancy hormones (along with my already short fuse) are responsible for this oversensitivity...but that's just the way it goes these days :p

22w0d

There's nothing but BLUE skies do I see :) We had the big ultrasound on Friday and baby cooperated, we are having a boy! The tech was able to get the gender pictures right away, she had us close our eyes while she looked. She printed out a picture and labeled it with the gender...we had her seal the picture in an envelope. I asked how sure she was, her response was "Oh I'm very sure" LOL. The tech also got great shots of the heart and we got the results from my doctor later that day, everything looks good!!!  After we left the clinic, we didn't have a plan...we had people at our house for the garage sale, so we couldn't go home and open the envelope and celebrate in privacy. We talked about waiting until later that night but we knew we'd never be able to wait that long. So running out of options, we decided to class it up and head to McDonald's for breakfast before heading home. We ordered some food and found a secluded booth in the kids area. I took the picture out upside down and we both closed our eyes...as they were closed, I flipped it over and we looked on the count of 3...we saw "It's a Boy!!" at the bottom of the picture. We were so excited...even though I've always known it was a boy...it still doesn't feel real yet...maybe in a few more days it will finally sink in :)

How far along? 22w0d or 55%
Total weight gain/loss: +9 pounds
Size: Spaghetti Squash or Papaya!  He is about 11 inches long and around 1 pound.
Baby Development: Pumpkin seed is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. There is fine hair that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Also his pancreas are developing steadily.
Best moment this week: Finishing the followup ultrasound (with good news!) and finding out we are having a son!
Movement: Yes, I feel him move all the time...nothing external yet so Joe is still *patiently* waiting to feel a kick!
Food cravings: Nothing new
Food aversions: None
What I miss: Jimmy John's, alcohol, my jeans (haven't bought maternity ones since I doubt I'll wear them much this summer)
Milestones: Nothing for this week.

We had a successful weekend, we got rid of a lot of stuff and made a little over $100 (overall around $350 in total between the 3 of us).  We only had a few boxes left over, which are going to Goodwill.  We didn't sell the old bedroom set we have but we may repaint the dresser and use in the nursery instead. We are slowly making progress on emptying the office, to make room for the nursery stuff.

Today should be a fairly lazy day for us, grocery shopping and picking up the house...it looks like rain so we got the outside stuff done this morning before it hits.

a little of this and that...

We have another busy weekend ahead of us, so I thought I'd do a quick update now...probably won't have time to update until Sunday again. We are having the 4th annual P family garage sale at our house this weekend. So we've been busy making new, more durable signs to advertise with and purging stuff to make room for baby come October! We should have some big ticket items to get people in, so hopefully it's a success!

I haven't talked about it in a while but I'm still clipping coupons and loving all the savings...some weeks I've been really good about going through them before heading to the store...others have been just too busy (or wasn't feeling well and Joe did the shopping for me, you'll notice a dip in March/April which was when I had morning sickness/extreme fatigue)...but here is what we've saved for the first 5 months of the year:

This past weekend, Joe spent the weekend at his Dad's with his brother Mark. I headed to the neighborhood garage sales in Elk River with my SIL Melinda and niece Brandy. We had so much fun and seriously scored some awesome deals! I got practically brand new, name brand clothes (Gymboree, Carters, Gap) for next to nothing (everything was $1 or less). I plan to go each summer now and buy for the next year. It was a little tricky shopping and not knowing the gender...but I'm hoping to still find some sales in June once we know. On Sunday, I headed to Edina for lunch with some of my girls. We had a picnic at an indoor park and then headed to Southdale Mall for some retail therapy. We also found out one of us is expecting in early December. I was so excited to hear the news and to share some of my pregnancy with her! She thinks hers is a girl (I think mine is a boy)...so maybe they'll live happily ever after someday? Or if I'm wrong and pumpkin seed is a girl, then at least be LLL's like we are ;o)

We survived the heat wave this week...my car read 105 yesterday...I texted my family and asked if I had slept through June and July...it felt like a bad August on a vengeance. It guess it hasn't been that hot in MN since 1988. I've never been more thankful for air conditioning than I was the past few days.  I'm only between 5-6 months along now but still...I would have been one VERY crabby lady to be around if I didn't have it at both work and home. My car never really cooled down either, even with my 45 minute commute. About halfway home, I was finally able to grip the steering wheel without severe pain.

Otherwise, life has been good...our summer is already starting to fill up VERY fast...I have a feeling I'm going to blink and it will be September already, eeekk!

21w0d

How far along? 21w0d or 52.5%
Total weight gain/loss: +8 pounds (no change from last week, I've come to accept the fact that I'm not a gradual gainer, I like to pack on the pounds in chunks, LOL)
Size: Banana or Carrot! Pumpkin seed  is around 3/4 of a pound this week and approximately 10.5 inches long.
Baby Development: This week he'll feel like he's practicing marital arts and the fluttering movements will turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges (which I can believe, this little one is moving all the time). His eyebrows and lids are present now as well.
Best moment this week: Feeling our baby move every day, throughout the day. Such a cool feeling and tells me everything is still trucking along :)
Movement: Yes! I notice it the most after eating or having caffeine/juice. I feel him/her move at my desk all day...makes the work day a lot more enjoyable, that's for sure!
Symptoms: No major symptoms, ring is still on, yay!
Food cravings: Nothing new
Food aversions: None
What I miss: Jimmy John's, alcohol, my jeans (haven't bought maternity ones since I doubt I'll wear them much this summer)
Milestones: We started clearing out the guest bedroom last weekend...the bed and desk are still there yet...but I've cleared out the closet and it only has baby stuff now (except for Joe's tie rack which won't work with our closet system, so it will stay put). I also went on a diaper shopping spree the past few weeks and our pre-folds arrived in the mail...I've started the LONG process of washing and prepping them all. The pre-folds will need at least 4-5 wash cycles with extra rinses so they take at least 1.5 hours to wash each time in our machine. I'm glad I started now...I should have them ready by October. I guess I didn't realize the prep work that had to go into getting the diapers ready!  Thankfully the don't require that many washes once you use them (just 2 wash cycles and an extra rinse or two). I have a bunch of all-in-one bum genius diapers that also need multiple washings too...but I will just sneak them in when I have time and other laundry doesn't need to be done...I will get there eventually. For now, they are just taking up space on my laundry room floor, which is driving me slightly crazy :)
Ultrasound Update: We are going back in next Friday for a followup ultrasound...I hope we have good news on both the heart and gender identification...although if I only get one, I will choose the heart every time.

In other news, we had a great holiday weekend at my parents lake place...the weather cooperated most of the time so my Dad and Joe got some fishing in, although they were unsuccessful in catching anything. I finished organizing my non-pro wedding pics and got them into an album (a 12x12, 3 inch scrapbook album with 12 picture sleeves)...holy crap. I'm guessing I have over 900 in there...thanks to a very generous family friend, who captured over 500 pictures of the day for us. I cherish those as much as my pro pics, especially the dance ones. I have some great shots of the chicken dance, hokey pokey and electric slide. And with all the pictures taken at the salon, I truly have the entire day captured...and it's so fun to look back and reminiscence. I look forward to the day our kids are old enough to sit down and page through the special day that made them possible :)

This weekend, I plan to hit up some garage sales since I'll actually be in town for once. On Sunday, I'm meeting up with some of my girls for lunch. It should be awesome weather too, so I'm really looking forward to it. And I've never been more thankful for central air than I am today with highs in the 90s (and will be all summer, I think it's going to be a scorcher)...after 2 summers with window units, it is just heavenly...I could dry my hair this morning without an ounce of sweat on my forehead...just awesomeness!

We also had a guy that Joe ended up knowing from high school, come to the house and quote us on new seamless gutters...and it ended up being a price we were comfortable spending (unlike the previous quotes we had)...and he said they will be ready to go on Wednesday, yay! I won't be sad to see the orange Home Depot bucket disappear from the front of the house, where the old crappy gutter has been leaking all spring. We also decided that when we have enough money saved, we are going to paint the existing siding instead of completely replacing it (should cost dramatically less). Joe had someone out so we had an idea of what we needed to sock away and we are still waiting for a quote...just another thing to add to our mile long list of house updates we still need to make :o/

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend...I'm just counting down the hours now...I'm leaving at 1:30 so we can check out another daycare. I'm hoping this is the one, it would be SO convenient and it's right across from our gym, so I would have no excuse not to go that way anymore after work. Plus, it's the least expensive center we've looked at and our friends Brooke and John take their daughter there...and have nothing but great things to say about them. Not to mention, it would be nice to check this big item off the list too!

Happy Friday!
