We had an awesome birthday extravaganza weekend for Mason’s first birthday! On Thursday after work, I picked my sister up from the airport and got Papa Murphy’s on the way home. My brother also came over after work for dinner and cake. Mason LOVED pizza, he’s definitely our boy! He couldn’t get enough and ate almost an entire piece, minus the crust. After pizza, we did our onesie pictures (which he was less than thrilled about) and tried to keep him up and entertained until my parents arrived around 7:30pm. Once my parents arrived, we sang happy birthday and had cupcakes to celebrate. He wasn’t too sure about the cupcake but eventually warmed up to it.
On Friday, Mason has his 1 year checkup and shots. We have switched to the WHO charts. I wasn't sure why we weren't on them in the first place but I did some research and found the American Association of Pediatrics updated their statement in February 2012 that these charts should be used now, so she must be updating her patients charts now or just waited until he was 1. Either way, we've never been concerned with his progress, he has always gotten raving reviews that his rolls are perfectly normal and he's very a healthy boy. So in the end, they are just numbers so it doesn't really matter all that much. But his new measurements are no longer comparable to his previous measurements...he’s off the charts now, my little chub-a-lub :)

Height: 32 inches (100% percentile)
Weight: 27 lbs 7.5 oz (100% percentile)Head Circumference: 18.75 cm (85% percentile)
He was so brave though, getting 4 shots and a blood draw to check his lead and hemoglobin levels (which came back great). That was such a process, they had to prick his finger and draw way more blood than I was expecting. He squirmed so bad and is a strong little boy…we eventually got what the nurse needed but not before getting blood all over himself and my sweater. Such as life, huh? I’ve had every other bodily fluid of his on me…why not add blood to the list, right? (FYI, the nurse told me to put peroxide on it when I got home and then wash it normal, it would come right out. And she was right!!) After the doctor’s appointment, I dropped him off at daycare and headed home to pick up my sister and mom to go wedding dress shopping for Debbie. Our first stop was the Wedding Shoppe in St Paul. Debbie tried on probably 15-20 dresses there…and we thought we found a pretty good contender until the very last dress. It was a last minute find and was kinda plain and strapless, which Debbie was looking for a dress with straps. However, she tried it on and WOW…the sales lady added a blingy belt and we knew it was THE ONE. It went from Plain Jane to WOWZA! Trevor is going to be speechless when he sees her in this dress. I can’t wait to post pictures from the wedding for you all to see!! She looks absolutely stunning in this dress, like it was designed just for her!
We then headed down the street to grab lunch at Jimmy John’s and then I picked up Mason’s birthday cake at Wuollet Bakery…my absolute favorite cake in the world and they had a groupon deal, so it was very reasonably priced for the size we needed for his party. We then headed back towards home and decided to still make the 2pm appointment we had at Angelique’s. This was where I had found my dress, so we thought we’d look around to see what they had to offer…and we were so very disappointed, I don’t think they had updated the dresses from when I was there 3 years before. I saw many of the dresses I had tried on and the lace dress selection, which Debbie was looking for, was very poor. We didn’t stay long and it just solidified that Debbie had found the right dress!
We picked Mason up at daycare and headed home to get ready for dinner, we went out for fish at Majestic Oaks Restaurant. Mason got a grilled cheese and ate almost the entire sandwich…another food that he LOVES!
Saturday morning came bright and early, as we got the house ready for the party. Around noon, our families started to show up for an afternoon of brats and burgers, cake, yard games and lots of laughter and fun! We seriously lucked out with GORGEOUS weather…we couldn’t have picked a better day to have his party.
