Also some random pictures from a few weeks ago at home and on a shopping trip at our favorite store, Target!
Because neither Joe or I have a lot of vacation time, we had to stay home for the 4th this year. We had planned to spend a relaxing day at home in the air conditioning, with possibly heading to a BBQ. But we had no such luck. We spent most of the afternoon in urgent care. Mason had a runny nose for a few weeks, which then started to develop into a cough...which then led to severe coughing attacks. In the middle of the night before we finally went it, he was coughing so hard that he threw up all over me. We decided we better go in and get it checked out. He had all the symptoms of whooping cough, even though he was current with his pertussis vaccinations. We read that once they've had the 3rd dose, they are pretty much immune but like anything, it's never 100%. After checking him over for other things like pneumonia and such, he was given all the clear for those. They told us continue with the nebulizer and gave us a steroid to help with the congestion to help tide us over until the whooping cough results came in (takes 3 days to get them). Thankfully they ended up coming back negative but it was a rough 3 weeks between the teething and the cold/cough that wouldn't go away.
Even when he's sick, he still smiles...such a happy little guy. Here are some pictures of him wishing everyone a happy 4th!
The next day, Joe went into urgent care. He was diagnosed with pneumonia, for the second time this year. He had previously been diagnosed in February. So they gave him some medication to get that under control.
The week after the 4th, Mason got to spend 3 days with his Auntie Deb Deb and Uncle Trev Trev. My sister and Trevor were home for a family reunion (post on that to come) and then they spent a few nights at our place. We kept Mason home so he could spend some quality time with them and he had a blast!! Although I'm pretty sure he wore them out...he is one high energy, never resting kind of kid :)
Playing with his uncle...
Those toes look soooooo tasty!
Weeeeeee!
This past weekend, Joe's dad got remarried. We headed to Plymouth on Saturday and had a great time catching up with family. Mason however was not feeling well but powered through the night like a champ. He had been sent home on Friday with a temperature of 101.5. There had been 2 other kids sent home on the day before with temps of 102 so we figured it was another virus he had caught and decided to wait it out a few days. Luckily the ibuprofen reduced the fever tremendously and seemed to help with any pain/discomfort Mason was in. However by Sunday, he still spiked a fever whenever the medication wore off so we went in again. Also, Joe was not sounding any better and after 2 rounds of medications for the pneumonia, something else was still going on. Joe went first and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. Mason was up next and had an ear infection in his left ear. So off to the pharmacy we went and went home with 3 more prescriptions. Today, everyone is pretty much back to normal, thank goodness!
During the same time Joe and Mason were sick, I too caught a really bad cold...I'm still occasionally blowing my nose and coughing. It's been 2 weeks tomorrow since I started feeling it arrive but I too am feeling better so I hope the P family can stay healthy for a while. It's no fun being sick, especially in the summer!
In other news, Joe started a new job. About a month ago, he quit Ameriprise and started working for State Farm. After the 4th, he started the training classes that would prep him for his licensing exams and he took the last one last weekend and has passed them both with flying colors. He received his official license from the state this week and will be able to start writing policies Aug 1st!! We knew that his Ameripirse job was simply a job, it wasn't a career but a filler until his new career made an appearance. Ever since Wells Fargo Financial closed, he has struggled to find anything other than a job and we are so thankful that this opportunity finally came along. I think he's going to do great and rock this job :) He will be working under another agent, with hopes that he will do well enough to open his own agency in the next 1-2 years.
As for me, I'm still liking Target. Still lots to learn but I know I'll get there one day. I also purchased a fitbit this past week with my birthday money. It's basically a really souped-up pedometer that keep tracks of your steps, distance, number of stairs and calories burned. It also tracks your sleeping patterns and lets you know how long you slept, how many times you woke up and calculates your sleep efficiency. Then it wirelessly updates to your online account when within 15 feet of your computer. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps or approximately 5 miles per day. It really hasn't taken that much more to get those steps in. I've done little things, like walking to the cafeteria to get water instead of going right below me and I try to take two 10-15 walk breaks during the day. Target is all about being healthy, so there are walking trails around our building that I'll take advantage of when it cools down a bit. But our building is also very long so I just walk indoors right now and it works out really well.
All in all, life is pretty good here in the northern town. We are just trying to enjoy every second we get with our little boy who changes daily. It's hard to believe summer is already half over and soon it will be sweatshirts and football...so looking forward to that time again though, I love Fall!!!
